Theme: Pandemic, Resilience, and the Arts
Overview:
The De La Salle University (DLSU) Arts Congress is an annual event that aims to provide researchers, artists, creative writers, students and art enthusiasts a venue to present and celebrate their creative works and research. The event comprises of art exhibit, conference, and performance. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the DLSU Arts Congress 2021 is going to be held online. The theme of 2021 Arts Congress is ‘Pandemic, Resilience, and the Arts.’ We reflect on the profound impacts of the global pandemic on freedom and mobility; how arts in various forms have helped us endure the confinement. The Arts Congress invites guest artists and scholars to discuss the challenges and opportunities from the current global pandemic. The conference seeks to explore the changes that were triggered by the pandemic on the people’s lives while the online art exhibit and performance aim to showcase arts and artworks that creatively represent or have been inspired by the COVID-19 narratives and experience. More specifically, the 14th DLSU Arts Congress seeks to explore and stimulate discussion on various issues such as but not limited to the following:
1. The role of (traditional, visual, performance, etc.) arts in navigating the global pandemic,
2. The coping mechanisms of individuals, families, communities, businesses, authorities and nations,
3. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on individual and social activities,
4. Challenges posed by the pandemic on governance like striking a balance between economic activities and public health safety,
5. Business strategies during the pandemic and gradual reopening,
6. Challenges and opportunities on education and delivery of lessons,
7. Pandemic, mental health, and the arts,
8. The global pandemic and foreign relations,
9. Effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the creative expression of artists and their artworks,
10. Impacts on creativity, the scientific community, and the creative industry.
Call for Panels, Roundtables, and Individual Presentation
The 14th DLSU Arts Congress invites students, faculty, scholars, practitioners, policymakers to submit proposals for presentation at the virtual Arts Congress Conference. There are three (3) types of submission that can be made – (a) Individual paper, (b) group/panel presentation, and (c) roundtable discussion. The 2021 Arts Congress online conference is free.
Mechanics:
1) Please send your abstract, proposal for panel or roundtable discussion using the following Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexF7k4QkebGXBr2aDOOczg5uYveZINeZvYUmdSleHe-ifM7A/viewform?usp=pp_url
2) Individual abstract submission must articulate (1) the aim of the study and the research problem; (2) the study’s design or methodology; (3) brief summary of major findings or trends found or expected to be found; and (4) brief summary of your interpretations and/or conclusions
3) Deadline of submission is on January 30, 2021
4) The conference proceedings will be published. If you want your paper included in the proceedings, please submit your complete, revised draft by March 19.
Call for Entries for Online Artwork Exhibit
The 14th DLSU Arts Congress now accepts photo submissions of your original visual artworks (in black and white or colored) that creatively represent the theme or any of the sub themes of the Congress. The artwork must be inspired by or creatively represents the COVID-19 narratives and experience. The chosen photos will be included in the first ever virtual Art Exhibit of the 14th DLSU Arts Congress.
Mechanics:
1) This call is open to all DLSU and non-DLSU faculty, staff, and students
2) Each participant can submit up to five (5) photos with the title for selection

4) Upon submission, the participant will receive an email acknowledgment receipt for the proposal
5) Faxed submissions will not be accepted
6) By submitting photos to the 14th DLSU Arts Congress, the owner openly declares that such photos are his/her and that no copyright infringement was committed
6) Deadline of submission is on January 30, 2021 at 5:00PM
7) Notification of acceptance is on February 20, 2021
Call for Online Art Performance
The 14th DLSU Arts Congress invites performers and artists to submit a pre-recorded live art performance (such as but not limited to individual or group dance, song, violin, guitar, piano, etc.) to be included in the first ever online Art Performance of the 2021 Arts Congress.
Mechanics:
1) The artist/performer can submit up to two (2) pre-recorded video performance
2) The performance should reflect the theme or any of the sub themes of the Arts Congress,
3) Since the submitted pre-recorded video performance will be curated and uploaded on an online platform (i.e., YouTube) for public viewing, the material/s(such as music or songs) used in the performance must be either public domain or original composition,
4) The performer/artist is responsible for getting the permission of the owner/s of any copyrighted materials used or partially used in the video performance,
5) The pre-recorded video should be not more than 15 minutes long
6) Deadline of submission is on January 30, 2021
